Brittney Went To Great Lengths To Help A Child

Last year my daughter did something that completely touched my heart. What she did also touched the hearts and lives of others. You see, my daughter sought out a way to make a difference in this world. In doing so, she discovered Locks of Love and knew that she had to donate her beautiful long locks for this very worthy cause.

My daughter truly has a heart of pure gold. She thinks of others and just wants to help in any way that she can.

She told me of her desire to donate her hair, and one evening she asked me to be the one to cut her long locks. It pained me greatly as I gathered her hair and formed a ponytail at the nape of her neck. Her hair was all the way down her back.

I took a rubber band and positioned it at the other end so that the hair would not fall loosely on the floor as I cut it.

With each snip of the scissors, my heart was overflowing with such love and pride for what my daughter was doing. Although she loved her long hair, she willingly sacrificed it all for the love she had in her heart for someone she hadn’t ever met that was going through treatments.

After I cut her hair, I placed it gently inside a zip lock bag and prepared to mail it to the Locks of Love organization.

While her hair had to be ten inches in order to donate it, it was actually a lot longer than that when we cut it. People began to tease her about her short hair, but she took it all with a smile on her face and in her heart knowing that she made a difference. Her hair would give someone else a chance to feel whole again.

My daughter received a card in the mail from Locks of Love thanking her for the generous gift of her precious hair. The card read as follows:

Brittney went to great lengths to help a child.

Dear Brittney,
Thank you for your generous hair donation! Your selfless act of kindness will benefit a Locks of Love recipient and change their life for the better. Most of our recipients suffer from an autoimmune disease called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. Other recipients are cancer survivors, victims of trauma such as burns and rare dermatological conditions that result in permanent hair loss. Your donation of hair will help return smiles to the many varied faces of our children. On behalf of those children, their families, and the Board of Directors,
THANK YOU – YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE!!
